Vincent Bach New York 17C1 Trumpet Mouthpiece - Gold Plated - Clifford Brown Model

The Vincent Bach Corp New York 17C1 is one of the rarest and most legendary trumpet mouthpieces of all time. This is the exact mouthpiece that the legendary trumpet player Clifford Brown played for the majority of his career. It was designed for him by Vincent Bach himself, who made two models, the 17C1 and the 17C2. Clifford Brown ended up choosing the 17C1 over the slightly shallower 17C2. This model was not made in huge numbers, and only appeared for a short amount of time. While production continued into the Mount Vernon era, Clifford Brown only played the New York era size, identical to this one. This mouthpiece model has been copied thousands of times, but none match the original mouthpiece found here. This is the closest it is possible to get to the exact mouthpiece played by Clifford Brown without playing his own personal mouthpiece. It is absolutely ridiculous levels of rare, and this is one of only a small handful that will show up for sale in the next few years.

Despite being a relatively small mouthpiece, it is entirely possible to get a beautiful dark sound from the 17C1, as showcased by Clifford Brown on his recordings. It’s a suitable mouthpiece for all styles of jazz soloing, as well as lead playing. It is also quite similar to a Bach 10 1/2C (10.5C), but slightly shallower and with a wider, more comfortable rim.

The mouthpiece is in absolutely outstanding condition. There is no major damage anywhere, only minor nicks from its life over the last near-century. The mouthpiece is fully gold plated.
