Gold 1930s Vincent Bach Corp. New York 7C Trumpet Mouthpiece - John Brierly

This is an outstanding Vincent Bach Corp. New York 7C trumpet mouthpiece. The 7C is the standard trumpet mouthpiece. It’s used by nearly every beginning student, but also by many professional players, especially in the jazz world. However, at this period of time, a Bach 7C was considered a full professional mouthpiece. This mouthpiece was made with the best craftsmanship of the era, and still to this day plays as an absolutely wonderful mouthpiece. Easily better than a modern 7C. No exact measurements have been taken, but the cup seems deeper and wider than the standard “modern” 7C. This is standard for early Bach manufacturing, which was known for being somewhat inconsistent. These inconsistencies, however, led to incredible mouthpieces being created. This is one of them. 

The mouthpiece is hand stamped 7C, signifying it as coming from the 1930s period of Bach manufacturing. Considering the period it came from, this very mouthpiece was likely handled and possibly made by Vincent Bach himself.

The mouthpiece is in absolutely outstanding condition. There is no damage beyond minor nicks and scratches, and plating is intact throughout. Minor wear spots are apparent, particularly on the shank, but the gold plating holds strong throughout. In desirable collectible condition. A mouthpiece from this period hardly ever occurs in a condition this nice. 

This mouthpiece belonged to John Brierly, and is stamped with his name. John Brierly was a New York professional trumpet player and educator. He was well known for his lead trumpet playing, in particular, and toured with the Lou Rawls band into the 1980s. He was also a frequent member of New York pit bands and orchestras. He was a very influential member of the trumpet community, and is still remembered by his friends and colleagues today. John Brierly unfortunately passed in 2024 due to cancer. This information was given to me by a student and friend of his, who I am incredibly grateful to.
